There’s 12 months in a year
Three for the Autumn months where the leaves fall orange
The missing you is at its beginning
Three for the Harsh Brisk winter where everything is white
With the high point being in December seeing you and sharing Christmas and a Half New Year
The full New Year Celebration will come but let’s just leave that to another poem
Where was I?
The harsh winter months change from I miss you to I needeth you.
Need to keep you warm at night.
Need for me to do right
Yet the 3 months of Spring show signs of something better.
A pinch of the future in March with a weekend together
A do or die struggle through last exams
And a toast to it all in May.
Then, there’s the last 3 months.
Three out of Twelve a quarter.
Stop reading this poem if I am wrong
A quarter more.
A quarter of where I could’ve spent my time elsewhere to make money
Make the missing you turn sour.
But the route I chose was to spend my last quarter with you
My goodness that was such a blissful decision.
There was the toast in May where Mama and the fam saw how you got down
Squeezing into the chair with me.
Then there was June 4th finally an anniversary where there was no rush.
The moment where my pocket took a breath and said to your pocket
“Thank You Dear”
The first time I rode shot gun with my baby at the wheel.
From there on we saw travels to unfamiliar places
North, South, East, and West.
I took a step back and let you see new places familiar in my eyes but a lost wonder to yours
July 4th Redemption Day
Ode to a spectacular anniversary of America but more importantly
We pranced out with our sandwiches.
One chair One love in tow
With a 3rd wheel slipping in.
The sun fell low and the music rang through the air
“Got me up all night all I’m singing is love songs.”
And as the music softened we played on snaking through a crowd
On a mission like James Bond with his woman.
The mission was for us to say,
“All I see is fireworks”
And that was mission accomplished
Our 4th of July redemption was met
The pace of summer quickened and so did my age.
With that a new mission was to walk across the burning sands and take in the limelight of the beach
A quarter more I was blessed to have
The sun blazed brightly on what was a birthday to remember
Stepping off the bus looking at you.
Mesmerized like a married couple on vacation.
The phones turned to off and just a day for the two of us.
My heart didn’t know what to say
The skin did scream the next day sun burn but there was more to come
It’s come upon August and here we are again.
Through triumph and failure.
Matching shirts in tow
Fifteen months experience in tow
A quarter more of time spent together instead of away.
A love changed over and over.
I love you
I love this quarter more that I got to spend with you
